PSA: Malicious Cyber Activity Against Election Infrastructure Unlikely to Disrupt or Prevent Voting

This public service announcement conveys the joint assessment from the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) that attempts by malicious cyber actors to compromise U.S. election infrastructure are unlikely to significantly disrupt voting or alter election outcomes. It explains that historical activity has remained localized and effectively mitigated and that extensive safeguards in election systems make large-scale manipulation difficult to execute undetected. The PSA also offers basic precautions for officials and the public to reduce risk and avoid falling victim to phishing, spoofing, and misinformation that could be misconstrued as an actual compromise.
